Private Pilot Training Program

To be eligible for a private pilot certificate, a person must be at least 17 years of age to take the FAA checkride. A person can solo at 16 years of age. Under the Dept. of Homeland Security (TSA) Part 1552, proof of US citizenship must be proven before flight training can begin.

All Non-USA flight students interested in flight training at JustFly! Flight Training go to the TSA website: www.flightschoolcandidates.gov for further answers to flight training questions.

Obtain an FAA medical certificate from an Aviation Medical Examiner (AME).

The  FAA regulations requires a person must log at least 40 hours of flight time that includes at least 20 hours from an authorized instructor and 10 hours of solo flight training in the areas of operation listed in Part 61.107(b)(1), and training must include at least:

3 hours of cross-country flight training in a single-engine airplane

3 hours of night flight training in a single-engine airplane that includes—
One cross-country flight of over 100 nautical miles total distance; and 10 takeoffs and 10 landings to a full stop (with each landing involving a flight in the traffic pattern) at an airport.

3 hours of flight training in a single-engine airplane on the control and maneuvering of an airplane solely by reference to instruments, including straight and level flight, constant airspeed climbs and descents, turns to a heading, recovery from unusual flight attitudes, radio communications, and the use of navigation systems/facilities and radar services appropriate to instrument flight;

10 hours of solo flight time in a single-engine airplane, consisting of at least—
5 hours of solo cross-country time; One solo cross-country flight of at least 150 nautical miles total distance, with full-stop landings at a minimum of three points, and one segment of the flight consisting of a straight-line distance of at least 50 nautical miles between the takeoff and landing locations.

Three takeoffs and three landings to a full stop (with each landing involving a flight in the traffic pattern) at an airport with an operating control tower

3 hours of flight training in preparation for the practical test in a single-engine airplane, which must have been performed within 60 days preceding the date of the test?

A person will have to take the FAA Knowledge test with a score of 70% or more.

So whether you are an academic student, in the work force or retired, our training program is structured toward you, the individual.  There is no specific time limit for training completion and optimistically, flying 2-3 times per week (usually 2-hour blocks of time) is the best.  However, we realize that this is not always possible, so we structure our training to meet your personal schedule.

Instrument Training Program

The FAA requires at least 50 hours of cross country flight time as pilot in command.  Minimum or 40 hours of actual or simulated instrument time. At least 15 hours of instrument flight training from an authorized instructor. 1 cross country flight that is performed under IFR conditions.

A total 10 hours may be approved in an FAA approved simulator which JustFly has available.

Commercial Training Program

At least 250 hours of flight time as a pilot that may include not more than 50 hours of flight simulator instruction in an approved FAA simulator.
The 250 hours total time must include:

    a. 100 hours in powered aircraft - 50 hours must be in airplanes;
    b. 100 hours pilot-in-command time - 50 hours cross country in
         airplanes
    c. 20 hours of flight instruction to include:

             1. 10 hours of instrument - 5 hours in a single-engine airplane;
             2. 10 hours in a complex airplane or turbine powered;
             3. 2 hours of day VFR cross country, straight-line distance of
                 100nm from departure point;
             4. 2 hours of night VFR cross country, straight-line distance of
                 100nm from departure point.

    d. One solo cross country of 300nm, with three landings, and a
        straight-line distance of 250nm from the departure point;
    e. 5 hours of night solo VFR conditions with 10 takeoffs/landings
        at an airport with an operating control tower.

Cockpit Companion Course

Have you wondered what would happen if the pilot became incapacitated during a flight in which you were a passenger?  Do you want to know more about how airplanes work, don't want to take a lengthy ground school or flight training?  The cockpit companion course is designed for spouses, significant others and friends of pilots.   The course primarily focuses on communication, navigation and landing the airplane.

If you sign up today:

Just Fly! will pay for your airplane rental ($200 value), during your FAA checkride, only if you sign-up and complete any of the pilot training programs from start to finish. This is our way of saying "thanks" for flying JustFly.
