Lone Star Flight Training / FAA Test Center / A&P IA Test Prep

Private Pilot Training

Your instruction in the classroom as well as in the air is always one on one with the same instructor, This saves you time and money.  We are a Part 61 flight school.  This allows you to train at your pace.  Our proven syllabus is modular in nature, working on building blocks to develop knowledge and safe flying habits.

A minimum of 40 hours of flight training is required by the FAA for your Private Pilot Certification.  Per the FAR-AIM this is to include:

  • At least 20 hours with a flight instructor
  • 10 hours of solo flight in the area of operations (Basic flight manuevers)
  • 3 hours of night flight training
  • 10 takeoffs and landing to a full stop
  • 3 hours of cross-country flight training
  • 1 cross-country flight at night over 100 nm distance
  • 3 hours of control and manuevering of an aircraft solely by reference to instruments and         unusual flight attitudes
  • 10 hours of solo time including: 5 hours of solo cross-country time, one cross-country flight of at least 150 nm total distance with full stops at 3 different airports and one segment of at least 50 nm
  • 3 take offs and landing to a full stop at a controlled towered airport
  • 3 hours of flight training in preparation for the Practical Test

Whereas the FAA requires a minimum of 40 flight hours to be eligible to take the Private Pilot test, the national average is between 65 to 70.  This information can be found at www.FAA.gov http://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/handbooks_manuals/aviation/media/faa-h-8083-27a.pdf on page 2.
