The Recreational License

Would you like to take to the skies and fly locally in less time?  Consider a Recreational License.  If you are concerned with the investment of time and money that a Private Pilot License requires a Recreational License maybe your best alternative.  A Recreational License allows you to fly small aircraft locally in good weather conditions in daylight hours.  The time and expense is about half of a Private Pilots License.

What are you able to do with your recreational license?

You may fly in a single engine aircraft of 180 horse power or less.
You may travel to any airport within 50 NM of your departure airport.
You may carry one additional passenger.
With additional endorsements from your instructor you may extend your distance of travel and include control towered airports.

Requirements:

You must be 17 years of age and able to speak read and understand english.
You must have: 30 hours* of flight time.
                         15 hours of flight training with an instructor.
                          2 hours of flight training to an airport 25 NM away.
                          3 hours of solo time
                          3 hours of flight training in preparation for the flight
                              test within 60 days prior to the checkride.
                          Pass the knowledge test with at least 70%
                          Pass the practical test.

What is the cost of a Recreational License?

*30 hours of flight time reflects the minimum hours required by the FAA to meet with a flight examiner.  Your actual time may vary based on home study, lesson preparation and personal ability.  *Aircraft at JustFly are dry leased. Fuel cost is based on burn rate times current fuel prices.

Our Piper Cherokee rents for $70 per hour plus the cost of fuel, your flight instructor is $30 per hour, ground or air.  The overall cost is estimated to be $4,000. to $5,000.
